Oakes, Travis, Davies, Curry, Covey, Strickland, and Chamberlain secure wins on a historic and resilient evening.

BUSTI, N.Y. — Mother Nature attempted to spoil the second half of Stateline Speedway’s 70th-anniversary celebration, but the resulting rain delay only added a layer of historic nostalgia to the evening. Echoing the track’s inaugural 1956 season—when local farmers used tractors to tow cars from muddy parking lots—a sudden downpour before the event sent track crews into a frenzy. In a unique display of community, fans were invited onto the speedway in their personal vehicles to help pack the racing surface, ultimately allowing the action-packed program to take the green flag around 9 p.m.

Hall of Fame Inductions Before engines fired, the speedway honored two long-overdue Hall of Fame inductees: Toby Jordan and Jay Pees. Jordan, a fixture in the racing industry since the 1970s, was recognized for his monumental contributions through car building and parts sales, having influenced nearly every local legend to pass through the pit gates. Pees was honored as a true renaissance man of the sport; his trailblazing resume includes driving (and winning in) a front-wheel-drive car, announcing, track photography, media relations, and serving as a fierce advocate for racers and tracks alike.

Super Late Models The Super Late Model feature delivered an instant classic and a candidate for “Race of the Year.” Doug Eck controlled the point and valiantly fought off all challengers for the majority of the 25-lap event. However, heavy lapped traffic and a slight slip-up by Eck with only a handful of laps remaining opened the door for Greg Oakes. Oakes, who charged from a sixth-place starting spot, seized the opportunity to steal the thrilling feature victory from Eck’s grasp.

RUSH Late Models Continuing his career-best season, Ian Travis captured another RUSH Late Model feature win after a barn-burner of a race. Travis successfully held off Branden “Boo” Warner in a thrilling battle through lapped traffic, with Andy Michael finishing close behind. Meanwhile, Steve Dixon put on a spectacular show in a rare start; after falling back early, Dixon hammered the cushion to pass a massive number of cars, ultimately rebounding to finish just one spot shy of his original starting position.

UMP Modifieds Legendary driver “Dutch” Davies made a triumphant return to victory lane. Capitalizing on a flawlessly prepared track surface, Davies built a massive gap over runner-up Greg Johnson to secure the win. The feature saw Pro Stock regular Jason Black make an impressive Modified debut behind the wheel of the Afflixtion Race Cars house car, typically driven by Wyatt Scott. Heartbreak struck rookie Tyler Rendell; after winning his first career heat race, Rendell was poised to improve on his career-best fourth-place finish before on-track contact relegated him to a DNF.

RUSH Pro Mods Trenton Curry secured a major milestone, battling past Josh Wilcox and Dave Shagla Jr. to capture his first career big-car feature win. Curry engaged in a fierce side-by-side duel with Wilcox’s No. 1W before finding the momentum to pull away and drive to his maiden victory.

Pro Stocks Jason Covey piloted his No. 67 machine to victory lane following a sensational, lap-after-lap, side-by-side battle with Dustin Gibson. Covey finally gained the upper hand to secure the win. John Boardman mounted a late-race charge, gaining four positions to hunt down Covey, but ran out of laps before he could challenge for the lead.

RUSH Stock Cars Starting from the fifth position, Cole Strickland patiently stalked his prey, navigating through the field to reach the rear bumper of race leader Raidden Wilson. Strickland waited for Wilson to make a mistake, capitalizing on the opening to dart past and secure the feature win.

Challengers The Challenger division produced another first-time winner as 16-year-old Addison Chamberlain scored the victory in her first-ever start at Stateline. Already a multi-time winner in regional kids’ divisions, Chamberlain made her adult-class debut an unforgettable one, out-dueling the division’s red-hot “final boss,” Holden Heineman. Chamberlain started on the front row alongside fellow female competitor Billi Jo Huffman, who rounded out the podium with a strong third-place finish.

Upcoming Schedule Stateline Speedway returns to action this Saturday night for a highly anticipated “Fan Appreciation Night.”
