The Lawfirm PPM Earns First Tri-City Win in Lutz Memorial, Photo Finish to Bish and Baker Rules Again in Stocks

FRANKLIN, PA – Fans at Tri-City Raceway Park were treated to a great night of racing for the Andy and Billie Lutz Memorial, featuring an action-packed program headlined by Parker Price-Miller securing his first-ever victory at the track in the FAST on Dirt 410 Sprint Car Series. The Pro Stock finish decided by a mere thousandth of a second, and William Baker Jr. winning his fourth straight week in the RUSH Stock Car division.
The Hovis Auto & Truck Supply 410 Sprint Car 24-car field came to the green flag for the second Summer Sizzler, with pole-sitter Ricky Peterson Jr. and the track’s second all-time leading division winner, Bob Felmlee, leading them to the satrt. Felmlee quickly grabbed the top spot with Peterson right on his tail, but as the early laps ticked off smoothly, Parker Price-Miller—affectionately known as “The Lawfirm”—joined the lead battle from his fourth starting position while former series champion Brandon Spithaler began moving through the pack from the tenth spot to duel with Jeremy Weaver for fourth. Up front, Felmlee was flying and turning laps at 119 mph, but Price-Miller eventually slipped past Peterson for second to set his sights on the leader just before the race’s only caution flag flew on lap 14 when Joel Mellon looped his car around in turn four. When racing resumed, Felmlee set sail again, but Price-Miller kept his cool and found an opening entering turn one on lap 19 to take the lead, holding off the heavily charging number 6 car in the closing laps to secure his first-ever Tri-City victory and become the 104th driver in track history to visit victory lane. “Man, this is the first time I’ve ever laid eyes on this track,” an excited Price-Miller said after receiving a cool Grandfather clock trophy. “Great place to race, a lot of character, and several grooves you can race. I knew the 6 car was on a rail and it was time to go, so when he gave me a chance going into turn one, I gave it everything I had to race against one of the legends here. It’s special to win a race like this for my team owner who is from this area.” Felmlee settled for the runner-up spot ahead of Peterson in third, while Weaver and Spithaler had a great race trading spots several times late in the running before Weaver ultimately claimed fourth and Spithaler rounded out the top five.
The excitement only intensified when the 20-lap RK Virgile Iron & Steel Pro Stock feature took the track, delivering a finish decided by the narrowest of margins for the second consecutive week. Andy Buckley, who recently ended a twenty-year drought, jumped out to the early margin ahead of Jake Whitling, while a good battle quickly materialized behind them as Bobby Whitling, Rod Laskey, Pat Fielding, and Curt J. Bish diced for positions three through six early on. The first of two cautions flew on lap 4 when Jason Kimmy looped his car around in turn one for debris in turn three, but Buckley continued to set the pace on the restart as Joey Zambotti joined the mix and Bish methodically worked his way into third while the surrounding cars swapped positions on every single lap. The final caution flag waved on lap 10 after Scott Malone and Tommy Dembowski got together on the backstretch, ending Malone’s night but allowing Dembowski to continue. With the laps winding down, Bish made a decisive move on lap 16 to get around points leader Jake Whitling for second and began a furious pursuit of Buckley, cutting into a nearly two-second margin to get right onto the leader’s bumper with two laps to go. As the white flag flew, Buckley held a slim margin using the inside groove around the track, but Bish made a move around the outside that set up a side-by-side drag race down the backstretch and through turns three and four, setting up one last push and a drag race to the finish line where Bish took the win by a mere one-thousandth of a second for his second win of the season and the tenth of his career. “Wow, that was close, and I knew once I started gaining on Andy I might have a shot,” Bish said, dedicating the victory to his newborn grandson. “It feels good to come back and win one like this after losing a great battle a week ago to Bobby Whitling, and this track was excellent tonight and it’s so fun to race here.” Buckley finished a close second, followed by Jake Whitling, Rod Laskey, and Bobby Whitling completing the top five.
Closing out the night of racing, the 15-lap Complete Car Care Center RUSH Stock Car feature became the William Baker Jr. show once again. Leading wire-to-wire to claim victory, Baker parked his car in victory lane for the sixth time this season and his fourth straight week in a row. Raiddan Wilson challenged Baker in the early stages of the race, but the leader remained in control through three caution periods—two for track debris on laps five and six, and a final yellow on lap 12 when Jim Buchanan spun out in turn one. Baker was stout throughout the race and in control, while heartbreak struck Wilson on the final lap when something broke on his car, allowing Robert Switzer and Cole Laskey to pass the 77 car. Baker claimed his 10th career win at the track, smiling as he noted how much work goes into making sure the car is ready to roll when it hits the track and how much fun they are having racing at Tri-City. Switzer finished second, with Cole Laskey in third, Wilson recovering for fourth, and Buchanan coming home fifth to cap off a memorable night of short-track racing that sets the stage for next week’s regular 4-Star racing program and Twin State Auto Racing Club nigh
