Super Late Model Showcase and Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Highlight Friday Night at Tri-City
Franklin, PA— Tri-City Raceway Park hosts a four-division racing program this Friday, August 21, at the Venango County half-mile clay oval. Headlining the event are the Super Late Models making their only appearance of the season, alongside the Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series presented by RK Virgile Iron & Steel. The Complete Car Care Center RUSH Stock Cars and Mini Stocks round out the schedule.
The Super Late Models return to Tri-City for a $3,000-to-win feature event that pays $250 just to start the main event. Friday marks the 60th time the division has competed at the track, a history that includes 32 different winners, such as Steve Francis, Dick Barton, Shane Clanton, Tim Fuller, Darrell Lanigan, Chub Frank, Lynn Giesler, and Bob Wearing. Rob Blair is the all-time leading winner with ten victories. Five-time feature winner Max Blair enters Friday’s event as a top contender. The racing format begins with time-trial qualifying, which sets the heat race fields with a four-car invert. Late Model drivers expected to compete include Dave Hess Jr., who won the most recent Super Late Model race at the track, alongside Jared Miley, defending track champion Josh Ferry, Jon Lee, and Brock Pinkerous. There is no Tri-City registration fee.
The championship chases intensify as the Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series arrives for a 25-lap main event paying $1,500 to win and $200 to start. Drivers will compete for points in both the Touring and Weekly Championship standings. Heat race lineups will be determined by a pill draw, with a $35 registration fee paid to Penn Ohio prior to the draw. If 35 or more cars register, a B-Feature paying $250 to win will be added to the program. Penn Ohio officials will mail all driver payouts following the event. Drivers expected to compete include series points leader Chris Schneider, Jackson Humanic, Jake Dietz, Curtis J. Bish, and Tri-City’s all-time leading feature winner Bobby Whitling. They will compete against track champion Jake Whitling, plus track regulars Andy Buckley, Pat Fielding, Josh Seippel, and Rod Laskey.
Two support classes complete the schedule, each competing for a $400 winner’s prize. In the RUSH Stock Cars, Raiddan Wilson attempts to secure back-to-back victories, while track champion William Baker Jr. looks for his eighth win of the season. The Mini Stocks will also be in action, featuring Cameron Franz and Jacob Wheeler, who have both won feature events at the track this year.
