REW, Pa. — On a perfect Sunday night in the mountains of McKean County, Bradford Speedway roared back to life after rain washed away the original Thursday debut of the Charlie Sevrey Memorial. And when the gates finally opened, the racing didn’t disappoint — 57 cars filled the pit area for one of the season’s most anticipated nights, honoring the late Charlie Sevrey with the richest Sharp Mini Late Model purse to date in the region.

And in the main event of the evening, Brad Mesler turned heartbreak into history.

The multi-time RUSH Late Model winner added his name to the books in the sharp mini late model division, storming past a dominant Chris Whyte in the closing laps to claim the inaugural Charlie Sevrey Memorial and its $1,000 top prize. Whyte, coming off a hard-fought victory the night prior at Stateline Speedway, looked poised to sweep the weekend. He set fast time in qualifying with a blistering 16.921, cruised to a heat win, and led most of the 20-lap main.

But Mesler had other plans. Wheeling the Beaver Motorsports No. 18, he chased down Whyte in the final circuits, executing a decisive pass to cap off a thrilling run and send the grandstands into a frenzy. Whyte settled for third, while the night became one fans won’t soon forget..

The division also ran a makeup feature from July 13th, where luck turned the other way for Mesler — breaking just laps into the event. “If that happened five laps earlier, we don’t even win the Sevrey Memorial,” Mesler said after. In that race, Jesse Isadore bounced back from earlier misfortune and put on a show with Whyte, while Donovan Sevrey turned in a charge of his own, storming through the field to grab a podium finish on the night that honored his late family member.

In RUSH Late Model action, Austin Hauser delivered his first win of the season, holding off track points leader Jake Wilber in a tension-filled 25-lap feature. Wilber shadowed Hauser throughout, repeatedly getting a fender underneath the No. 51. Kurt Stebbins also impressed, jumping four spots on the high side to slot in behind Wilber by race’s end.

The Pure Stock division saw a gritty duel between Zach Hamer and veteran Joe Skinner, weaving through lap traffic. Skinner used a lapped car to his advantage late in the race to make the move for the win, while Hamer’s night ended in frustration after a spin from the lead brought out a late caution and collected himself and a few others to end their nights.

Meanwhile, in the Kids Mini Stocks, the Skinner name was back in victory lane — this time with Jake Skinner, son of Joe, who continued his tear in the youth division.

It was a night to remember for Ian Degolier in the RUSH Pro Mods, as he scored his first-ever feature win in front of the hometown crowd. The former Mini Stock driver held off some of the top runners in the class to take a bigger lead in the division’s points over Al Brewer.

The SCDRA Mini Stocks delivered late drama. Sherman Gage appeared to have the win in hand, but contact with leader Allen Robinson on the final lap opened the door. Robinson powered through to grab his first career Bradford Speedway victory, while a heated points battle continued to simmer. With substitute drivers filling in and Khloe Griffin closing the gap, DJ Williams’ once-comfortable lead shrinks to just 49 points.

UP NEXT AT BRADFORD SPEEDWAY:
